Considerations:

  1. The test barrel for Nosler was 6.0" / 15.24 cm with a 1/16 twist rate. The barrel used in the Mech Tech is 2.66x longer at 16.0" / 40.64 cm with a right hand 1/16 twist rate. The additional barrel length provides additional potential for velocity. As is seen in in the data below, the additional velocity is 300 fps / 91.44 meters per second faster at the top end. 
  2. The powder charge of 12.0 gr is not the maximum tested by Nosler. 12.5 gr or 4% more is the top end. Rarely ever will our testing efforts go to the maximum powder charge. 
  3. The muzzle energy is 847.99 ft/lbs or 625.44 Nm versus the 573.30 ft/lbs or 422.84 Nm of a 6.00" barrel. That's an increase of 274 ft/lbs.
  4. Accuracy was moderate at 100 yards using the UTG Accu-Sync Iron Sites. Most of that accuracy was due to the low skill, poor eye sight of the shooter. Probably an 8" group. 
  5. In the next planned test, we will try 10 rounds with Federal's Magnum Large Pistol Primer.

Conclusions:

  1. Given a better optic, something like the Primary Arms/Holosun partnership ACSS reticle and a 3x magnifier, accuracy may increase given the shooter might be able to see the target much better. 
  2. Should the accuracy be improved (or the shooter's ability improve) this round will be in the top 5 list for feral hog hunting from either the Glock 40 with a KKM 6.1" stainless match barrel and Carver Customer compensator or using the Glock 40 lower with the Mech Tech CCU. 
  3. As a personal defense round, the muzzle energy o delivered  and Nosler's JHP reputation for performance are enough for this round to make the list.
